I must say…  I didn’t make much headway with my June list. I did manage to find another book I was in the middle of reading… and add a couple more books to my list. The books that are carried over from June I will just quickly list below.

  • The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer
    •  FINISHED 7/11/17 – Just so happens book 6 in the series was released same day!
  • Ghoulish Song  by William Alexander
  • Pennyroyal Academy by M.A. Larson

Nightmares! by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller(started October 2016 )

Like I mentioned above, I found another book in progress from this school year. I bought Nightmares! by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller from the Fall book fair …it was featured on the preview video and I thought it was something the students would enjoy. I picked it up last night to see if I could get into the story again and read three more chapters before I could tear myself away!

2017-2018 Mark Twain Nominees

In an effort to read more of this years Mark Twain Nominees than last year, I have started reading two from the current list: The Worst Class Trip Ever by Dave Barry and The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley.

The War that Saved my Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley (started July 1,2017 – completed July 7, 2017)

I am reading The War that Saved my Life on the Kindle app on my tablet. I am loving this story. I have to admit… some parts are hard to read past because of the mother’s abuse of the main character, Ada. What I am LOVING about this book is how Ms. Bradley shows the hardships of leaving city life and going to the country during the evacuation … even when home isn’t a good place. Ada and her little brother struggle learning new words and experiences. I just reached the halfway point in the book and knowing there is already a sequel has me RACING through to see how and when this book ends… It is set during World War II… but the second book is called The War I Finally Won. I am sure I will have to read that book before I get much further with the rest of this year’s nominees! *UPDATE Good news\bad news  Found out this book is not available yet…so I will be able to finish some other books!

The Worst Class Trip Ever by Dave Barry (started July 4, 2017)

I wasn’t going to start this until I had finished The War that Saved my Life… but I was stuck with a napping kiddo on my lap and had this book in arms reach! This book certainly has humor… however I have to admit some parts have me nervous…  AND OF COURSE… this book has a sequel out too! This year’s nominees are not helping me get through this book quickly! LOL!

Call it Courage by Armstrong Sperry

I also plan to listen to a book in order to further my progress on the AR challenge issued to me by fifth grade students several years ago. I realized our library had Call it Courage by Armstrong Sperry on audio cassette. I have to admit I am looking forward to this because of… well… the Disney movie Moana… I have a feeling I can get kids to read it by connecting it to the movie… We will have to wait and see if I am right! 🙂

The Unbreakable Code by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman

I JUST ( July 5th) received my delivery from Amazon of The Unbreakable Code by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman. I thought I would start reading it right away because I loved the first book so much… but I am MAKING myself finish The War that Saved My Life ( I have to say that book has drawn me in pretty good!) first… because I need to check more of this year’s Mark Twain Nominee’s off my list before getting lost in the NUMEROUS sequels for the books on the list! I have already read the first three chapters thanks to the Amazon preview! I am beyond excited to continue the Book Scavenger adventure. I am anxiously awaiting nap time for my boys so I can continue reading!

Also delivered with my Unbreakable Code book was 101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up by Bianca Schulze. I consider this list a new challenge to accept! Luckily some of the books I can read with the boys.

Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith

To wrap up my list of what I am reading,  I am going to add a book to reread. As mentioned in a previous post I am featuring the 2003-2004 Mark Twain nominees in the library in an effort to get some of these great books circulating again. I am going start with Zach’s Lie by Roland Smith… he is on this years list so… I figured the kids will like that one.

Hopefully I am more successful this month…
